Snake Eyes Star Henry Golding on Unmasking the G.I. Joe Character in Origin Film

There is little doubt that fans are hyped up about Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. After all, the upcoming film will finally reveal everything we didn't know about the ninja commando-like what he looks like under the mask. Interestingly, Henry Golding points out that unmasking the hero is truly important in telling his story.

Golding recently spoke to IGN where he confirmed that the film's version of Snake Eyes didn't get his vocal cords or face damaged in a war. Instead, the movie explores who he was before he became part of G.I. Joe.

"Let's just say he wasn't born with a mask. There's always a beginning," Golding said. He continued by stating that giving Snake Eyes the chance to talk means getting his story right.

"The importance for giving complexity to such an iconic character, I think drove us to be able to allow him to express himself because I don't think we were able to see that in the comic books," Golding said.

"We weren't able to understand the hardships that got him to be who he is, the decisions that were made, the hurdles that had to be overcome, the wrong, the right," Golding continued.

"And we see all of that within this, [film] because perhaps he isn't the best of guys, in the beginning, perhaps his motivations aren't true. But what he goes through with the Arashikage [Clan] perhaps puts him back on the right track," he concluded.

It's great to know that Golding and the producers gave this idea a lot of thought. After all, we don't know anything about Snake Eyes, not even his real name. Hopefully, this will be revealed in the upcoming film.

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins also stars Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow, Úrsula Corberó as The Baroness, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Haruka Abe as Akiko, Tahehiro Hira as Kenta, and Iko Uwais as Hard Master. The film premieres on July 23, 2021.
