Shang-Chi Director Shares New Images of Tony Leung's Wenwu

There is little doubt that all of the characters in Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings were important but Wenwu was truly special for one notable reason: He was played by the legendary Tony Leung. Not surprisingly, Destin Daniel Cretton has wonderful things to say about working with the screen legend and the director also shared new never-before-seen photos of Leung on the set of the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick.

Cretton has been sharing photos taken from the set of Shang-Chi on his official Instagram account and heaping praise on the film's cast and crew. One of his recent posts honors Leung and reveals how the filmmaker felt about working with an icon.

"The great Tony Leung blew me away every day with his dedication, insight, and humility. Working with him was an indescribable experience that I will cherish forever," Cretton wrote.

It's no surprise that Cretton was thrilled to work with Leung, who is one of the most recognized Asian actors of all time. In addition to his undeniable charisma, Leung's performances are always a sight to behold. Needless to say, he was the perfect choice to play a character as complicated as Wenwu.

Leung's version of the Mandarin is truly different from Ben Kingsley's Trevor Slattery. However, it is awesome to know that the character has been played by two of the most respected screen legends.

Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings also stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Meng'er Zhang, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, and Michelle Yeoh. The film is still screening in theaters.
