Ron Perlman Reveals Why He Declined Returning for Hellboy Reboot

David Harbour might be the current Hellboy but there was a time when Red was portrayed by Ron Perlman. But why did Perlman decide not to return for last year's reboot of the franchise? Interestingly, it had a lot to do with being loyal to the original films.

Perlman recently spoke to ComicBookMovie where he revealed that he is still game for Hellboy 3 which could serve as the continuation of the original franchise. However, the project just isn't moving forward due to director Guillermo del Toro's hectic schedule.

"The only thing that's stopping the third Hellboy film is the fact that Guillermo is one of the busiest guys in the business," Perlman said. "He couldn't do it with all the stuff he's got lined up even if wanted to. The two films had nothing to do with one another."

Interestingly, Perlman confirmed that he was offered the chance to appear in the reboot. However, he admitted that this wasn't a version of the character that he wanted to take part in.

"The reboot was something I had the opportunity to participate in and decided that the only version of Hellboy I'm interested in is the one I do with Guillermo and so in walking away from it, I truly walked away from it, and haven't seen it or heard much about it," Perlman said. "I wished them well, but it was not in my bailiwick."

We're not exactly surprised that Perlman chose to stick with del Toro although another opportunity arose. Hopefully, we'll get to see his return as Big Red in the future.
