Riz Ahmed Reveals He Couldn't Attend Star Wars Celebration Due To Homeland Security

People were probably disappointed when Riz Ahmed's appearance at Star Wars Celebration Chicago was canceled earlier this year. However, the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor has just revealed the truth about his absence and it had a lot to do with some trouble with Homeland Security.

Ahmed recently attended CAA's Amplify leadership summit in Ojai, California where he confirmed that he was stopped by Homeland Security from boarding a plane to Chicago based simply on his race (via The Hollywood Reporter).

"[Hasan Minhaj] can win a Peabody, I can win an Emmy, Ibtihaj Muhammad can go to the Olympics, but some of these obstacles are systemic and we can't really face them alone, we need your help," Ahmed said.

The Venom star then addressed the audience asking for help in an effort to stop racism.

"I'm basically here to ask for your help because it's really scary to be a Muslim right now, super scary. I've often wondered, is this going to be the year when they round us up, if this is going to be the year they put Trump's registry into action. If this is going to be the year they ship us all off," Ahmed concluded.

It's certainly surprising that the star of The Night Of would have to go through an experience like that. Unfortunately, Ahmed's story does confirm that things like these still happen at this day and age.

Ahmed is currently working on the film Mughal Mowgli, which he co-wrote with director Bassam Tariq.
