Rian Johnson Confirms His Star Wars Trilogy Still In Negotiations With Lucasfilm

It has been a while since we heard anything new about the Star Wars trilogy that's being helmed by Rian Johnson. However, the Star Wars: The Last Jedi director assures fans that the project is still on the table.

Johnson recently spoke to Deadline about his new film Knives Out but he also offered a brief update on what's happening to his Star Wars trilogy. The filmmaker confirmed that negotiations are still ongoing although he hasn't heard from Lucasfilm for some time.

"We're still engaged with Lucasfilm and we'll wait and see," Johnson shared. "No updates on it at this moment, but yeah."

This isn't exactly groundbreaking news but it's still good to know that Johnson will still be moving forward with his trilogy. After all, it was previously reported that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will no longer be working on their own trilogy and that the project could be dropped. Johnson's update confirms that we can still look forward to more Star Wars movies in the future.

The premise of Johnson's Star Wars trilogy is still a mystery although there have been speculations that it will focus on new Force users. Some believe that the new films will bring back Daisy Ridley as Rey and even feature the young boy from The Last Jedi who used the Force to grab his broom.

Johnson's Star Wars trilogy has not yet been given an official release date. In the meantime, his new film Knives Out will hit theaters on November 27.
