Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek Movie to Focus on Captain Kirk

There is little doubt that Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek movie is one of the more intriguing projects planned for the franchise. After all, we have already learned that it will be based on the gangster episode from The Original Series. Amazingly, we're getting new details about the film and it looks like it will focus heavily on Captain James T. Kirk.

The new information comes from Mark L. Smith, who co-wrote the new Star Trek movie with Tarantino. While speaking to SFX, Smith revealed that although they love Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation, their project is all about Kirk.

"I love Picard. And Kirk is always just so fun. Tarantino and I had so much fun with him because Kirk is just William Shatner, you know?" Smith said. He then continued by stating that the film might feature the new Captain Kirk but Shatner's spirit will be evident in the screenplay.

"It's like, you're not sure who is who, so you can kinda lean into that. Because you watch Chris Pine and he's playing Kirk, but he's also playing William Shatner a touch," Smith said.

We're loving the idea that Kirk will once again be the focus of a new Star Trek movie. However, it is also important to point out that Paramount Pictures has yet to make a decision about what direction the franchise will be taking. Nevertheless, we're hoping that the studio decides on taking on Tarantino's plan.
