Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek Film Inspired by Gangster Episode from Original Series

Remember when it was revealed that Quentin Tarantino was working on a Star Trek movie? There is little doubt that people were blown away by the idea considering that the Pulp Fiction director is known for his violent films. But what exactly was Tarantino hoping to do with the project? It has just been revealed that the film would have been inspired by a certain gangster episode from the original series.

It was previously reported that Paramount Pictures is putting Noah Hawley's Star Trek movie on hold to rethink how the franchise will be moving forward. Hawley's film was supposed to introduce a new cast and focus on a deadly virus that might be seen as problematic considering the current global situation. On the other hand, it is suggested that Tarantino's project is still being developed and new details about the movie have been revealed.

According to Deadline, Tarantino had pitched a storyline "based on an episode of the classic Star Trek series that takes place largely earthbound in a 30s gangster setting." Trekkies were quick to recognize the episode as A Piece of the Action, which featured Captain Kirk, Spock, and the crew of the Enterprise find themselves in a planet whose inhabitants have fashioned themselves after a book titled Chicago Mobs of the Twenties.

This sounds like an interesting idea but fans shouldn't expect to have Tarantino directing the film. It was also revealed that the filmmaker has left the project which is now looking for a director.

What do you think of Tarantino's pitch for his Star Trek film? Sound off in the comments below.
