It has been a long time since we got any updates about the planned live-action adaptation of One Piece. After all, the Netflix project had to be shut down due to COVID-19 last year. Luckily, we now have an update about the series and it could mean we'll be seeing it much sooner than expected.
Showrunner Steven Maeda has been quiet about the project for some time but he finally shared an update on the One Piece series. Maeda posted an image on his Instagram account along with an uplifting message for fans who have been waiting for the show. Check it out below.
"A year ago COVID kicked us out of our offices and delayed production. But we haven't stopped working to bring @onepiecenetflix to life. Thanks for your patience, your questions, and many great suggestions," Maeda wrote.
The photo reveals the show's code name as "Project Roger." The tease immediately had fans talking considering that it was an obvious nod to Gold Roger, the Pirate King. In the anime, Luffy is eager to inherit the title and the adaptation being named after Roger could mean that he will succeed.
Netflix's One Piece series was supposed to begin production in August 2020 but filming was delayed due to COVID-19. Since then, there haven't been any updates on the adaptation. Luckily, it looks like the cast and crew had managed to get some work done since then. Hopefully, we'll be getting more news about the show soon.
Although One Piece's status is still unknown, we already know that another live-action adaptation has been completed. It was previously reported that the first season of Cowboy Bebop has wrapped filming.
