New Captain Marvel Petition Begs Disney to Replace Brie Larson with POC Actor

Brie Larson might not be the most popular Marvel Cinematic Universe star out there but is it really time for her to step down as Carol Danvers? A new petition is calling on Disney and Marvel Studios to replace Larson with a new actress who could play Captain Marvel.

The petition addressed to Disney points out that Larson is not worthy of playing Captain Marvel. In addition to that, it begs the studio to replace Larson with a woman of color in the next MCU flicks.

"We need Brie Larson to step down from her role to prove she is an ally of social justice and ensure a gay woman of color plays the role. Let Monica, the original female & BLACK Captain Marvel instead of white-washing characters for the benefit of the straight, white men running Disney," the petition reads.

The "Monica" that is being referred to here is Monica Rambeau, the daughter of Carol's best friend Maria who had briefly appeared in Captain Marvel. In the comic books, Monica becomes Photon and eventually takes the Captain Marvel mantle.

But why replace Larson's Carol with a person of color? The petition points out that Larson is not worthy of the role because "she hasn't donated money to any charity other than The Motion Picture and Television Fund Foundation" and that she should "show she is not all-talk."

It's a strange petition but it's also closing in on its mark. As of writing, the petition has already earned more than 27,000 signatures.
