It's been a long time coming but the Mortal Kombat movie is finally set for a new release date. The highly anticipated new adaptation of the video game has been given a new premiere date next year.
The announcement was made through the official Mortal Kombat Instagram account, which shared the new poster along with the release date. Check it out below.
"On April 16, Mortal Kombat enters the arena. Coming to theaters and streaming exclusively on HBO Max," the caption reads along with the hashtag #MortalKombatMovie.
This is great news considering that fans were previously concerned when the film was removed from Warner Bros.' release calendar. Luckily, it looks like we only need to wait a few more months before seeing the finished product.
The movie was initially scheduled to premiere on March 5, 2021, but Warner Bros. decided to move it up to January 15, 2021. After COVID-19, it was revealed that Mortal Kombat would be delayed again with the intent of being released in theaters later in 2021.
Mortal Kombat is directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan. The film will star Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks as Jax Briggs, Josh Lawson as Kano, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Max Huang as Kung Lao, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, and Elissa Cadwell as Nitara. Lewis Tan has been cast in an undisclosed role but is believed to play Johnny Cage.
Mortal Kombat will be theatrically released and on HBO Max on April 16, 2021.
