In case you missed it, the upcoming Lord of the Rings series on Amazon Prime is expected to gear up on sex and nudity. However, some fans are not exactly thrilled about a racy adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's work. A new petition has just been launched begging the streaming service for a PG-13 show.
Back in October, casting calls for the Lord of the Rings series surfaced and it was revealed that Amazon Prime is looking for actors who are “comfortable with partial or full nudity.” Needless to say, several fans were unhappy about the news and immediately began complaining about it on social media.
Interestingly, fans have realized that there are other ways to make themselves heard. A new petition on Change.org has been started by Cathoholic Memes and it points out that Tolkien wouldn't want an adaptation with nudity.
“Amazon Prime has an upcoming Lord of the Rings series set before the trilogy. They have hired 'intimacy coaches' and have asked that actors be comfortable with doing nude scenes in the castings,” the petition reads.
“Tolkien’s work is truly wholesome and packed with incredible Christian symbolism. He was a devout Catholic, and his memory does not need to be stained with gratuitous nudity or even nudity in the slightest. Tolkien’s creations have always been mostly FAMILY friendly...KEEP IT THAT WAY,” it concludes.
Not surprisingly, thousands of fans agree with the idea of a family-friendly adaptation. As of writing, the petition has already gained more than 33,820 signatures.
It's still unclear whether Amazon Prime will pay attention to the petition. Still, fans are determined to prevent any nudity in the Lord of the Rings series and might want to find other ways to make themselves heard.
