Loki Director Says He Who Remains is a Variant of Another Character

One of the best things about the Loki Season 1 finale was Jonathan Majors showing up at the Citadel at the End of Time. But does this mean that we finally got a glimpse at Kang the Conqueror's future self Immortus? Director Kate Herron has just revealed that He Who Remains is actually a Variant of a different character.

Fans were understandably delighted when it was revealed that He Who Remains had created TVA. After all, the comic book version of Immortus is a truly powerful being capable of many things and that includes time travel. However, Herron revealed to Deadline that the Kang we met isn't necessarily the Kang we will see in an upcoming MCU film.

"Kang is the variant, but he's also not technically Immortus," she said before comparing the character to another Variant.

"It's a bit like Sylvie, right? She's a unique character in relation to our story," Herron said. She continued by stating that the Variant that appears in Loki is based on Immortus himself.

"He Who Remains is in the comics, but the version in our show was very different. He's closer to Immortus, but he's a unique character for our story. But Kang is a variant of that character," Herron stated.

This certainly makes sense considering that Loki featured Variants who stood on their own and were based on real comic book characters. Still, this confirms that the character Majors played in the series will be completely different from Kang the Conqueror who will show up in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.

Perhaps the best thing that came from Kang's debut in Loki is how it ultimately lead to the multiverse being unleashed in the MCU. It might be a terrible thing for the heroes who will have to face a multiversal war in Phase 4. On the other hand, we're loving the idea that it means we'll be seeing more versions of Majors in the MCU.
