Kyle McLachlan Says Dune Reboot Streaming Release Plans are 'Disheartening'

There is little doubt that people are upset about Dune being delayed then getting a simultaneous release in theaters and for streaming. Not surprisingly, Kyle McLachlan isn't happy about the reboot being available on digital as well. The star of David Lynch's 1984 adaptation even went as far as calling the streaming plans "disheartening."

McLachlan played Paul Atreides in the original adaptation of Dune and he has been very supportive of the reboot for some time now. However, the Twin Peaks actor told The Seattle Times that he believes the Denis Villeneuve movie should be released in theaters only.

"I think the simultaneous release is kind of the wave of the future. It's disheartening though because a movie like that is meant to be seen on the large screen," McLachlan said.

There is little doubt that fans agree with McLachlan on this. After all, the trailer for the Dune reboot has already proven that this movie is going to be massive and would be best seen in the cinema.

Although the movie will still be screened on IMAX and 3D, the option of seeing it at home would be a more convenient option for people. On the other hand, you won't be able to see the grand scale of the film but it's the price to pay for safety.

Dune may be getting a simultaneous release but there's still a huge chance that people will choose to watch the reboot in theaters. After all, Godzilla vs Kong has already proven that fans will flock to the cinema for a movie they have been waiting for for a long time. With that in mind, we're expecting Dune to be a huge hit this October.

Dune stars Timothee Chalamet as the new Paul Atreides. The film will premiere in selected theaters and on HBO Max on October 1, 2021.
