Keanu Reeves Confirms The Matrix 4 is Still Basically 'A Love Story'

The Matrix franchise has been confirmed to be a story about the technological fall of man as well as a trans allegory. However, it looks like The Matrix 4 is taking it all back to basics. Keanu Reeves has somehow confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel is simply "a love story."

Reeves recently took part in BBC's The One Show where he spoke about The Matrix 4. Interestingly, the Bill and Ted Face the Music star praised director Lana Wachowski for coming up with an intricate screenplay "that is a love story."

We're not sure how to feel about this but it could mean that we'll be seeing a new focus on the relationship between Neo and Trinity, who will once again be played by Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. Or is it possible that we'll be meeting new characters who will fall in love in the film? Hopefully, we'll get new details soon.

Although Reeves didn't share too many spoilers about The Matrix 4, he also confirmed on the show that the film will not show Neo going back to the past. That pretty much ruins the whole young Morpheus theory that fans have been hoping for. Nevertheless, we're still looking forward to what the new Matrix film will have to offer.

The Matrix 4 will be directed by Wachowski and will also star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Eréndira Ibarra, Andrew Caldwell, Brian J. Smith, and Ellen Hollman. The film is currently scheduled for release on April 1, 2022.
