Joker Sequel Will Bring Back Todd Phillips to Co-Write Screenplay


It has already been confirmed that the sequel to Joker is now in development. Interestingly, it looks like another familiar face will be back in the second movie. Director Todd Phillips is reportedly returning for Joker 2.

Phillips helmed the 2019 film which he also co-wrote with Scott Silver. Although people were initially skeptical about Joaquin Phoenix playing the Clown Prince of Crime, the movie turned out to be a huge success. Needless to say, Warner Bros. is now banking on the idea that a sequel will please fans yet again.

It was previously confirmed that the studio already has plans for Joker 2 and that the project is now in development. The Hollywood Reporter now confirms that Phillips will return to co-write the script for the sequel. However, it has not yet been revealed whether Phillips' co-writer Silver will be back to work on the screenplay.

The 2019 Joker starred Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, an aspiring comedian who grows mad and kickstarts a violent revolution in Gotham City. The film premiered at the 76th Venice International Film Festival where it won the Golden Lion. Phoenix would go on to win the Best Actor award at the 92nd Academy Awards.

For now, Joker 2 has not yet been given a production start date. Likewise, an official release date has not yet been announced but could be revealed before the end of the year. However, Phoenix is expected to return as Arthur Fleck. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
