Johnny Depp Resigns From Fantastic Beasts 3

There is little doubt that Johnny Depp has gone through a difficult year. Unfortunately, things are just getting worse for the former Pirates of the Caribbean star. Depp has just confirmed that he has been fired from the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts 3.

Depp took to his official Instagram account to share a letter for his fans. Sadly, the message only had disappointing news for people who have been looking forward to Gellert Grindelwald's return in the third Fantastic Beasts movie.

Depp starts off by expressing his gratitude for his supporters.

"Firstly, I'd like to thank everybody who has gifted me with their support and loyalty," Depp wrote. "I have been humbled and moved by your many messages of love and concerns, particularly over the last few days."

The letter continues with Depp's announcement that he has been asked to depart from the Harry Potter franchise.

"Secondly, I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request," he wrote.

The last part of the letter then addresses his recent legal troubles.

"The surreal judgement of the court in the U.K. will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal," Depp wrote. "My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time."

Although it is not specified in the letter, Depp is clearly referring to the court ruling in favor of his ex-wife Amber Heard. Interestingly, Heard is still expected to appear as Mera in the Warner Bros. film Aquaman 2.

The studio has not yet revealed who will take over the role of Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3.
