In case you missed it, JJ Abrams' Bad Robot Productions will be developing a new Constantine series for HBO Max. But who will play the Hellblazer in the upcoming reboot? Abrams is reportedly planning to cast a BIPOC actor to play John Constantine in the new show.

Deadline confirmed that Abrams' Bad Robot is developing the new Constantine series with Guy Bolton writing the pilot script. Interestingly, the report also revealed that the project will feature "a diverse lead, a departure from the one played by Matt Ryan in the NBC series."

Naturally, several fans were unhappy with the decision to recast John Constantine for the HBO Max show. After all, people are still hoping that either Matt Ryan or Keanu Reeves will reprise their role in the NBC series or the original film, respectively.

On the other hand, some are already excited about the possibility of a BIPOC actor playing John Constantine and they have some interesting suggestions.

The new Constantine show will focus on a younger version of the character possibly exploring how he became the Hellblazer in the first place. Nevertheless, fans have not given up on the hope that Ryan will keep playing the occult detective in the Arrowverse and other DC shows.

Reeves first played Constantine in the 2005 film of the same name that happened to be released exactly 16 years ago (February 18). Ryan then took over the role in the NBC series in 2014, crossing over into the animated Justice League Dark film and the Arrowverse shows.
