In case you missed it, Venom 2 has been given a new release date and now has an official title. But why is it called, of all things, Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage? As it turns out, it's not as complicated as it seems.

Sony Pictures recently dropped a short teaser revealing the sequel's official title along with its new release date in 2021. Check it out below.

That's a strange subtitle but one that sounds familiar if you stayed behind to watch the post-credits scene in the first film. In the scene, Eddie Brock is invited to interview the imprisoned serial killer Cletus Kasady, who proceeds to show off just how crazy he might be. Kasady then says that once he gets out, there will be "carnage."

It's an obvious nod to Carnage, the symbiote that eventually takes control of Kasady. Additionally, we already know that Woody Harrelson will be back to play a larger role in Venom 2. Although it's understandable why Sony wanted to highlight Carnage's part as main villain in the sequel, we're just wondering why they didn't come up with a better title. Either way, fans can rest assured that the Big Bad is coming next year.

Venom 2: Let There be Carnage is scheduled for release on June 25, 2021.
