Hawkeye Series Initially Planned as Clint Barton Solo Film

There is little doubt that people are thrilled about Clint Barton getting his own spin-off series on Disney+. However, it looks like the project started out as a completely different thing. As it turns out, Marvel Studios initially had plans to bring Jeremy Renner back to star in a standalone film that would focus on Hawkeye.

The Hollywood Reporter recently published an in-depth report about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and other major franchises that are now crossing over into streaming. Interestingly, it reveals that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had a different offer to Renner when negotiating the actor's return to the MCU.

"Feige sees potential in using the service to build his movies, and vice versa, as characters will weave in and out of both. For example, the studio initially made a deal with Jeremy Renner to play his Avengers character Hawkeye in a solo movie before pivoting the project to a Disney+ series that is due this year," the report reads.

It's not exactly a huge surprise that Marvel was planning a Hawkeye movie. After all, the original six Avengers each have their own films, with the latest one focusing on Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow. With that in mind, Clint would be the natural choice to lead in his own film.

Although it would have been awesome to see a Hawkeye movie, it looks like Marvel made the right choice of turning the project into a series. Clint's story could be given better depth and also allow viewers to know the character even better.

Marvel's Hawkeye series will also star Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. The show has not yet been given an official release date.
