Harry Potter Star Rupert Grint Claims Working on Film Series was 'Suffocating'

There is little doubt that growing up in front of cameras can be stressful for actors. This is especially true for Rupert Grint, who spent most of his childhood working on the Harry Potter films. Interestingly, the Ron Weasley actor just revealed that filming all those movies was "suffocating."

Grint was recently a guest on the Armchair Expert podcast where he spoke about being a part of the Harry Potter franchise. At one point, the Cherrybomb star stated that spending an entire decade filming all those movies wasn't as fun as most people would expect.

"There was a time where it felt quite suffocating because it was heavy going because it was every day for 10 years in the end," Grint said. However, he was also quick to point out that it wasn't all that bad.

"It was a great experience. Such a nice kind of family atmosphere. It was always the same crew we kind of grew up with, so it was a great place to be. But sometimes it definitely felt like, ‘I want to do something else. See what else is out there,'" Grint said.

It's best to remember that Grint, along with Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, landed the roles of Ron, Harry Potter, and Hermione Granger in 2000. They would then continue to play these roles until 2010 (the final film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 was released in 2011).

The commitment toHarry Potter meant that Grint, Radcliffe, and Watson barely got the chance to work on other projects. While Radcliffe and Watson didn't have any trouble looking for new movie roles once the films were over, Grint took a more eccentric direction, doing only a few films and buying an ice cream truck.

Working on Harry Potter may have been hard but it also helped ensure that Grint would have lifelong friends who worked with him in the movies.

Grint's latest project is the Apple TV+ series Servant, which also stars Lauren Ambrose and Nell Tiger Free. The next episode of the show's second season will air on March 19.
