Godzilla vs Kong Could Have Been a 5-Hour Film

Anyone who has watched Godzilla vs Kong would be quick to say that the movie may have been a little too short. Although the MonsterVerse flick clocked in at a little under two hours, fans were undoubtedly hoping it would be longer. Interestingly, director Adam Wingard has confirmed that he had enough footage to make a five-hour film but you probably shouldn't expect a Wingard Cut soon.

There is little doubt that working on a movie takes a lot of time. It also means filming a lot of footage although not everything ends up in the theatrical cut. So would Wingard work on a longer director's cut of Godzilla vs Kong? The filmmaker told Den of Geek that it's possible.

"There's certainly enough footage to make a five-hour version of this film, I'm sure," Wingard said. However, he was also quick to point out that he is happy with the theatrical cut.

"For me, this is the version that worked the best, and I don't see any reason to do a director's cut," Wingard stated. He continued that if he was asked to do a director's cut of Godzilla vs Kong he would "just use that time to have another 40 days in the sound mix" since he enjoys "that kind of thing."

It's no secret that Wingard filmed several scenes that didn't end up in the film. It was previously expected that Godzilla: King of the Monsters star Zhang Ziyi would return in the sequel. In addition to that, former Game of Thrones actress Jessica Henwick shot several scenes that were ultimately left out of the final cut.

There is little doubt that fans are hoping for a Godzilla vs Kong Wingard Cut but it doesn't look like it will be happening soon. Nevertheless, the movie is doing great at the box office right now so Legendary and Warner Bros. doesn't really have a lot to complain about.

Godzilla vs Kong is still screening in theaters worldwide. It is also available for streaming on HBO Max for the first 30 days since its release in the US.
