It looks like George R.R. Martin is going to be a very busy man this year. The creator of Game of Thrones has just signed on for a massive deal with HBO to produce more content set in the Seven Kingdoms.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Martin has signed an overall deal with HBO to "develop more programming for the network and its streaming service, HBO Max." It was reported that Martin's contract will span five years.

It is unclear if Martin's contract already includes the announced Game of Thrones prequel shows. It has already been confirmed that HBO is producing House of the Dragon, a new series set three centuries before the events in the 2010 show

In addition to House of the Dragon, HBO has announced at least three more shows set in the Seven Kingdoms. One of which is a Dunk and Egg series that will adapt Martin's novellas while the second will focus on the warrior queen Nymeria who happens to be the namesake of Arya Stark's direwolf.

The idea of more content from Martin is a welcome one considering the success of Game of Thrones. However, fans are also concerned that the new contract will distract the author from finishing the sixth novel in his A Song of Ice and Fire book series.

The Winds of Winter continues to be the most highly-awaited novel. Martin was initially set to complete the book before Game of Thrones ends. However, the writer has yet to confirm the novel's release date or offer an update on its status. Nevertheless, we wait and hope that it will be completed soon.
