It's official: The Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon has begun production and we just got our first look at the cast gathered together for a socially distant table read.
The official Twitter account for House of the Dragon shared the image featuring the cast gathered together for their first table read. Not surprisingly, the cast members are seated at separate tables and some even have masks on during the session. Check it out below.
The cast members who are present for the table read include Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Emma D'Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, and Steve Toussaint as The Sea Snake.
It's great to see such an impressive cast finally gathered together to work on the Game of Thrones prequel. After all, it has been two years since we last saw Westeros. Needless to say, the idea of the new show being in production is an exciting one for A Song of Ice and Fire fans.
Although it is set in the same universe, House of the Dragon will not feature any characters that have previously appeared in Game of Thrones. The new series takes place 300 years before the events in the original series and is a loose adaptation of George R.R. Martin's novel Fire and Blood.
House of the Dragon is expected to follow the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. The series has not yet been given an official release date. Nevertheless, it is set to premiere on HBO and HBO Max in 2022.
