Fast & Furious 9 Demolishes Godzilla vs Kong Post-Pandemic Box Office Record

The Titans have found an even bigger threat than Mechagodzilla. The highly anticipated Fast & Furious sequel F9 has just defeated Godzilla vs Kong on its record-breaking international opening weekend earnings at the box office.

F9 was released internationally on May 19 in eight countries including China, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, and Egypt. The ninth installment of the Fast & Furious, which was supposed to premiere last year, was undoubtedly the one movie that fans couldn't wait to watch and they certainly were not disappointed.

Fast & Furious 9 has gone on to haul in over $127 million internationally and is expected to earn even more before the weekend is over. This means it is well on its way to breaking Godzilla vs Kong's international opening weekend record of $160 million.

The ninth Fast & Furious movie brings back Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto as he is forced to face his past. Dom's peaceful life is disturbed as he needs to bring his crew back together to go up against his own forsaken brother Jakob, played by John Cena. The sequel also brings back Sung Kang as Han Lue, who was killed in Tokyo Drift (I'm still confused about this entire thing but yes, he's back).

F9 also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell, and Charlize Theron. The film is currently screening internationally and is set to premiere in the US on June 25.
