Experience Original Star Wars 1977 Premiere in Captivating New Video

Most of us grew up on Star Wars but what was it like before the sci-fi franchise became a thing? A new video lets you experience what it was like to see George Lucas' creation for the first time back when it first premiered in 1977.

Although Star Wars is currently one of the biggest pop culture phenomenons of the century, there was a time when it was just starting out as a little-known sci-fi flick. A new video from Looper confirms that it took a few weeks before it would become a hit nationwide but it was the talk of the town in California when it premiered on May 25, 1977.

Interestingly, the movie had already been hyped up in California before its premiere so people flocked to Grauman's Chinese Theaters in Hollywood to see it. The endless line to get into the cinema would eventually become the norm for anyone wanting to see a Star Wars film.

The video features accounts from fans who had the honor of seeing Star Wars in theaters before it would become a global sensation. Needless to say, Lucas' creation was truly destined to become one of the best-known franchises in history.

Star Wars started out as an idea for Lucas in 1971 and it took several years before the film actually began production. Additionally, the script underwent many changes, with the characters getting different story arcs with each draft.

After the sequels were released, Star Wars would be renamed A New Hope and was later revised to Episode IV: A New Hope when the prequel trilogy was introduced.
