Eternals Director Chloé Zhao Wins Oscar for Nomadland

It's a huge win for Chloé Zhao. The Eternals director just took home the Oscar for Best Director for her film Nomadland, which also won Best Picture at the 93rd Academy Awards.

Nomadland proved to be the big winner at the Oscars on April 25, 2021. In addition to taking home the Best Picture and Best Director awards, Frances McDormand was awarded the Best Actress award as well.

Nomadland is based on Jessica Bruder's non-fiction novel Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century. It follows Fern (McDonald), a woman who decides to be "houseless" after the death of her husband. She sells her belongings to purchase a van and travels the country looking for work.

This is another major win for Zhao, who has previously won both Best Picture and Best Director for Nomadland at the British Academy Film Awards and the Golden Globes. Needless to say, Zhao is the perfect choice to work on Eternals.

Zhao isn't the only one connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe who won big at the Oscars. Black Panther star Daniel Kaluuya also took home the Best Supporting Actor Award for his performance in Judas and The Black Messiah. Although the late Chadwick Boseman was also nominated for Best Actor but ultimately lost out to Anthony Hopkins for The Father.

Zhao's most highly anticipated next project is Eternals. The film will star Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Kit Harington, Gemma Chan, and Barry Keoghan. The MCU flick is scheduled for release on November 5, 2021.
