The war has begun for Apple and Epic Games after Fortnite was pulled from Apple's iPhone and iPad App Store. Interestingly, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney had actually decided to make his declaration in an email sent to Apple CEO Tim Cook at two o'clock in the morning.
The latest legal filing reveals that Sweeney sent the email to Cook and other Apple executives on August 13 at 2 a.m. The message reportedly confirmed that Epic will cut the other company out of payments in Fortnite.
"I'm writing to tell you that Epic will no longer adhere to Apple's payment processing restrictions," Sweeney had written. "Today, Epic is launching Epic direct payments in Fortnite on iOS, offering customers the choice of paying in-app through Epic direct payments or through Apple payments, and passing on the savings of Epic direct payments to customers in the form of lower prices."
It was previously reported that Apple removedFortnite from the store and nixed Epic's developer contract after the update to the game that included the ability to pay Epic directly. The new option allowed users to buy the in-game virtual money (V-bucks) directly from Epic at a discount instead of going through Apple or Google.
So what would happen now that Fortnite is no longer available on Apple? If you have already downloaded the game through the app, you will still be able to play it. Unfortunately, you will no longer be able to update the game.
