Elizabeth Olsen Says Scarlet Witch's Original Accent Will Return in Doctor Strange 2

One thing that fans have noticed about Wanda Maximoff is how she has been gradually losing her Sokovian accent. However, Elizabeth Olsen assured fans that the character's original accent will be back in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

When we first met Wanda in Avengers: Age of Ultron, she and her brother Pietro Maximoff had heavy Sokovian accents. However, the accent practically disappears when she returns in Captain America: Civil War.

So what happened to Wanda's accent? Olsen revealed to Rolling Stone that it was actually Joe and Anthony Russo's idea to change it.

"So that started with Civil War. The Russos said, 'Can she just have a softer accent, because she's been in America, and has to have been speaking English more.' So I was like, sure," Olsen said, adding that the full American accent in WandaVision came through because of Wanda's desire to be part of the sitcoms she loved watching.

That said, Olsen stated that Wanda will be embracing her roots in Multiverse of Madness.

"I do have to say that in Doctor Strange, after the experience she has in WandaVision, she goes back to an accent that's more true to her," she said. "Now that I feel a little bit more ownership of the character, I feel like she does retreat back to having this more honest expression."

It's great to know that Wanda doesn't have to play a role anymore and will be more herself when we see her again next year. Needless to say, we can't wait to see Scarlet Witch in action again in Doctor Strange 2.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will also star Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorceror Supreme. The film is scheduled for release on March 25, 2022.
