There is little doubt that people are already hoping that they could soon go to the movie theaters to watch a film after the lengthy coronavirus outbreak shutdowns. But what is there to look forward to once the cinemas finally open this year? As it turns out, Disney's live-action remake of Mulan could be the first major movie that is set to premiere after COVID-19.
Mulan was expected to premiere earlier this year but needed to be pushed back due to the pandemic. Since then, Disney has decided to move the release date to late July. This would have meant that the reboot would only have to go up against Christopher Nolan's Tenet, which is an equally large project that would be released a week earlier. However, the Robert Pattinson film has since been pushed to a later date.
According to Comicbook.com, Tenet will be moved to a later premiere date on July 31. This means that Mulan is set to be the first major film that will enjoy a theatrical run after the COVID-19 shutdowns.
Although it is the first major release next month, Mulan isn't the first movie that will be screened in theaters after COVID-19. Russell Crowe's Unhinged and the romance drama The Broken Hearts Gallery will both premiere on July 10.
Mulan will star Liu Yifei in the title role with Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li in supporting roles. The film is scheduled for release on July 24.
