David Ayer Claims WB Deleted First 40 Minutes of Suicide Squad in Theatrical Cut

It's no secret that David Ayer is unhappy with what happened to his DC Extended Universe film Suicide Squad. The filmmaker has repeatedly implied that his original vision for the movie was heavily edited by Warner Bros. to the point that it barely resembled what he had planned for the project. So just how much of the original film are we missing? Ayer has just revealed that the studio made him delete the opening act of his own movie.

A fan recently reached out to Ayer on Twitter asking, "What was the toughest scene to leave on the cutting room floor?" Interestingly, the filmmaker had a shocking response.

That's right, the first 40 minutes of Suicide Squad ended up being removed from the theatrical release. Although Ayer didn't reveal what was in the footage, there's a good chance it would explain everything that happened in the DCEU movie.

Suicide Squad is hardly the first DC movie that didn't turn out as expected. This is why fans demanded for Zack Snyder's version of Justice League through the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. Not surprisingly, people are now campaigning with the hashtag #ReleaseTheAyerCut in an effort to see what the director had originally intended for the film.

For now, it is unclear if Warner Bros. will consider allowing Ayer to release a director's cut of Suicide Squad. In the meantime, the sequel/reboot The Suicide Squad directed by James Gunn is already scheduled for release on August 6, 2021.
