Stephen King's The Stand may have already been adapted before but the trailer for the new CBS All Access series adaptation reveals that the battle between good and evil is going to be a lot bigger this year.
The official trailer for The Stand was unveiled during the show's virtual panel at New York Comic Con. It opens with a glimpse at how the end begins with a virus that infects most of mankind but focuses on the survivors trying to band together. Amazingly, it is immediately confirmed that Stu Redman knows the names of the people he hasn't met yet. This has a lot to do with Mother Abagail, who has visited the survivors in their dreams.
Mother Abagail isn't the only one who has been seeking out the survivors. At one point, it is confirmed that "The Dark Man" is also out there collecting people to do his bidding. Will the forces of evil succeed against Mother Abagail and the other survivors? Or is there hope yet as the end draws near?
The synopsis for The Stand reads as follows:
“With a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after, a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides — or are chosen. A world in which good rides on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abigail — and the worst nightmares of evil are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the dark man.”
The Stand stars James Marsden, Amber Heard, Greg Kinnear, Odessa Young, Henry Zaga, Whoopi Goldberg, Jovan Adepo, Owen Teague, Brad William Henke, Daniel Sunjata and many more. The series will premiere on CBS All Access on December 17.
