Batwoman Star Wallis Day Speaks Out on Replacing Ruby Rose as Kate Kane

There is little doubt that Wallis Day has huge boots to fill. After all, the Krypton star has been confirmed to take over the role of Kate Kane in Batwoman Season 2. But how does Day feel about replacing Ruby Rose in the CW series? The Hollyoaks actress has finally addressed the casting.

Day recently spoke to CBR where she admitted that she had immediately auditioned for the role when Rose announced her departure. Unfortunately, things didn't work out so well at first.

"A few weeks into the process, they said that they were heading in a different direction," Day stated, referring to the show introducing Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder aka the new Batwoman. Nevertheless, showrunner Caroline Dries reportedly wanted to keep in touch.

"Caroline wrote me an email letter and just said, 'Listen, we're going in a different direction, but if we do end up bringing Kate back, I'll give you a call.' And I was just like, 'Yeah, right, everyone always says this to the actors!'"

Not surprisingly, Day admitted that she "was really upset" about the decision because she felt that her casting was "a right move." Luckily, she would later get a call from Dries.

"In January, Caroline called, and I was like, 'Yes, I do still want to play Kate! Let's do it!' And here we are," Day said.

It's understandable that Day was disappointed when the casting initially didn't push through. Luckily, the show figured out an excellent way to recast Kate in Batwoman Season 2.

The next episode of Batwoman Season 2 is titled Initiate Self-Destruct. The 12th episode of the second season will premiere on The CW on Sunday, May 2, 2021.
