Avatar 2 New Zealand Production Start Gets Criticized for 'Political Favoritism'

There is little doubt that people are currently excited now that Avatar 2 and the other sequels are set to resume filming in New Zealand. However, not everyone is happy about the movies going back into production. Interestingly, Members of Parliament have stated that the films are only being given the green light due to "political favoritism."

According to a report by Stuff, the Opposition MPs have criticized the government's decision to allow several overseas workers for Avatar 2 into the country. A charter plane reportedly carrying up to 56 film workers arrived in Wellington on Sunday although nine-in-every-ten requests for special exceptions for overseas workers gets rejected. ACT Leader David Seymour has since stated that the move is "an insult to working New Zealanders."

"What are the rules at the border? At the moment, it seems that if you're a friend of the Government, you're in business. If not, you're on your own. There should be one rule for everyone... It's unacceptable for politicians to be picking and choosing who can enter the country," Seymour said.

It was previously confirmed by producer Jon Landau that Avatar 2 and the other sequels will resume production in New Zealand after the country has declared itself free of the coronavirus outbreak. However, it is important to note that the workers who flew into New Zealand have to stay in quarantine for 14 days before they can begin working. With that in mind, filming may officially resume by the end of June.
