Alicia Vikander Shares Hopeful Tomb Raider 2 Update

Have you been waiting for updates on Tomb Raider 2? Alicia Vikander has your back. The star of the latest adaptation of Lara Croft's beloved video game has just shared a hopeful update on when we could expect to see the sequel to her film.

Vikander was recently a guest on Good Morning America where she was asked when Tomb Raider 2 will begin production (via Entertainment Weekly). Interestingly, the Ex Machina actress revealed that they were supposed to start filming this year but ended up being delayed due to COVID-19.

"The plan was for us to start making one this year, of course due to the [pandemic] situation, that's now very different," Vikander said. However, she did confirm that the sequel is currently in active development and she could finally return as the video game heroine by 2021.

"We're still in discussions about it, so I hope we can probably get to it next year," Vikander said.

It's awesome news for fans who have been hoping to see Vikander back in action as soon as possible. For now, that's the best update we have but hopefully, we'll get more details about the project before the end of the year.

Tomb Raider 2 already has several names attached to the project. Ben Wheatley will be taking over to direct the sequel to Roar Uthaug's 2018 film. In addition to that, Amy Jump has been confirmed to pen the script while Graham King's GK Films will produce the second movie. Vikander is the only confirmed cast member but stay tuned for more updates on this story.
