There have been reports that Jujutsu Kaisen is set for a long hiatus after it was revealed that creator Gege Akutami is having health problems. Now the mangaka has finally stated the serialization's delay and shared an update on their health.

The manga's hiatus was previously reported to be indefinite and will start after the release of Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #28. The delay is due to Akutami's health condition which is believed to have been caused by stress.

An update on the report shares two statements, one from the Jujutsu Kaisen editorial team and another from Akutami. The statement from the team confirms that the mangaka was eager to continue writing "but after several discussions with the editorial department, it has been decided that Akutami should take a break for a certain period of time."

Akutami's statement adds to what the team has said about the issue. They expressed their desire to "draw the end of the series as soon as possible" but admitted that they are unable to recover their schedule as soon as another mangaka could easily do so after a single break.

"If nothing is done about this, the same thing will be repeated over and over again, so I decided to accept the proposal from the editorial department," Akutami writes before adding that the hiatus will take "one month." They then assured fans that their health condition is not as serious as it sounds.

"Even if I say I’m sick, it’s not any serious illness. My mental health is completely fine, so do not worry about it. I’m really sorry I’ll have to keep you waiting. Once I come back, I’ll do my best with the serialization," Akutami wrote.

It might be disappointing for fans that they will have to wait a full month before the next chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen. Nevertheless, we will still be getting an update this week when the next issue of Weekly Shonen Jump is released. In the meantime, we're hoping that Akutami has a speedy recovery.

Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #28 will be released on June 14, 2021.
