Agents of SHIELD Star Chloe Bennett Wants People to Stop Calling COVID-19 the 'Chinese Virus'

There is little doubt that people are currently living in fear of the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). Unfortunately, some are reacting in a truly negative way. In response, Chloe Bennett has urged people to call the virus by its correct name. The Agents of SHIELD star has pointed out that calling COVID-19 the "Chinese virus" is only spreading hate.

Bennett took to her official Instagram account to post a message to her followers. Take a look at her post below.

"The Asian American community needs allies right now. Please speak out against the racist Cheeto in Chief," Bennett wrote.

The actress pointed out that she is not "attempting to minimize the macro-economic crisis," adding that she understands "that pointing fingers will not solve any HEALTH problems. Nevertheless, Bennett wrote that the new statement from Donald Trump isn't helping.

"The new wave of rhetoric from the White House, referring to COVID-19 as the 'Chinese virus' is unacceptable," Bennett wrote. "The attitude of the country reflects its leadership. And to have our president ignite racial hatred simply so he can deflect from his own incompetence is disgusting."

Bennett's lengthy message also pointed out that several friends and family who are of Asian descent have reached out to her about feeling anxiety over the racial slur. However, in the end, the actress continued to urge people to stay safe and healthy.
