Nintendo Officially Partners With Illumination For Super Mario Movie

Nintendo has officially partnered with Illumination Entertainment to make an animated Super Mario movie. Illumination has previously worked on Despicable Me, Minions, and Sing to name a few, so the company has proven to be competent in the animation department.

There have been rumors about a partnership between the two companies but Nintendo made it official when they announced the news on Twitter. It will be interesting to see how Illumination handles a movie with Nintendo's iconic lumber, though the bar is pretty low when the only things to compare it to are the old Super Mario Bros. animated series and a terrible live-action movie.

Currently, there is no release date for the film. In fact, the only thing revealed is that a Super Mario animated movie is being made. Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto will share a producer's credit with Illumination's Chris Meledandri. Tatsumi Kimishima, the president of Nintendo, previously stated that he would like to see the movie come out in 2020, just in time for the Tokyo Olympics.

All fans can hope for is that the movie will be good. Films based on video games have had a spotty track record, with almost none of them being good. Here's hoping Super Mario changes that. Or maybe even that Tomb Raider reboot.
