Xbox Series X is going to be the next-generation console coming from Microsoft, promising to give us the most powerful home console out there. During The Game Awards, we also saw one of its exclusive games, Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga, which currently doesn’t have a release date. As we wait for more news on these next-gen consoles, Microsoft shocked fans by stating that their new console won’t have any exclusives for a year.
Matt Booty, the head of Xbox Game Studios and owner of the best name ever, revealed that any first-party games for the console will also be playable on Xbox One and, probably, PC, like the recently-announced Halo Infinite. Speaking with MCV, Booty stated that he wants fans to feel that they made a good investment, which is an honorable notion if nothing else.
Here is Booty’s full statement:
As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices. We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox between now and [Series X] that they feel that they made a good investment and that we’re committed to them with content.
Fans that do want exclusives will be happy to know that they will be arriving in 2021, so that should be an interesting strategy. If they play their cards right, the Xbox Series X might have an okay launch since there appears to be no pressure in rushing their development teams to make an Xbox Series X exclusive.
Xbox Series X is currently scheduled for a holiday 2020 release.
