Why Margot Robbie Prioritized Birds of Prey Over Gotham City Sirens

One of the major complaints fans have had with DC's Birds of Prey movie coming out next month is that it has Harley Quinn, a character who isn't often associated with the group. This has made fans wonder why they didn't go forward with a Gotham City Sirens movie first since Harley is a big part of that group and it includes fan-favorites like Catwoman and Poison Ivy as well.

During an interview with Nerdist, Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie said she was doing some research for the character and stumbled upon the Birds of Prey comics. She quickly fell in love with the series' heroes and knew that they had to be represented in live-action since they got very few chances before. Robbie also wanted to elevate these characters since most people know Catwoman and Poison Ivy over Black Canary and Huntress.

"Focusing on the Gotham City Sirens, there were only three of us and we were all well known, whereas with Birds of Prey you can pick any grouping for that, and I thought that might be the perfect platform to introduce some female characters who might really have some legs in the DC universe."

While Black Canary and Huntress are well-known to casual DC fans or anyone who used to watch Justice League Unlimited, they are pretty unknown when compared to the Gotham City Sirens. Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn are some of the most well-known female characters in comics so it's cool seeing Robbie user her (and Harley's) star power to try and elevate the Birds of Prey.

Birds of Prey comes out on February 7.
