The Underrated Final Fantasy IX is Now 20 Years Old and Deserves to be Played

Final Fantasy IX is now 20-years-old and is still a sublime game to this day, as anyone who has enjoyed it can tell you. While it doesn't have the cultural impact of Final Fantasy VII or the accessibility of Final Fantasy X, the fact that it's the last title in this epic franchise to embrace its more classical fantasy roots will ensure the game's spot in JRPG history.

Despite the game being popular enough to get an HD remaster on modern consoles, the ninth entry of Final Fantasy can still feel underrated, especially when compared to juggernaut titles like VII. People seemed to look down on it back in the day since everyone wanted more edgy boys in their games but those who have played Final Fantasy IX know that it's one of the best games in the series.

Square Enix is actually doing a lot to celebrate the game's 20th anniversary as the Final Fantasy portal website is publishing three separate interviews with the game's writer Kazuhiko Aoki, artist Toshiyuki Itahana, and director Hiroyuki Ito. Hopefully, they put the game on sale as well since those who haven't played it yet are seriously missing out on how good this JRPG is.

If you haven't yet, Final Fantasy IX is available on pretty much every relevant gaming device out right now. You can play the game on phones, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Hell, you can even get it on a PS3 and PS Vita if you so desire.
