The Mandalorian Creator Jon Favreau on Why Feedback From Star Wars Fans is Important

I don't think it's controversial to say that The Mandalorian is the best form of Star Wars to come from Disney. Sure, The Force Awakens was a solid movie and The Last Jedi was a flawed, yet bold movie but a lot of that goodwill went away when The Rise of Skywalker messed things up. Whether you blame The Last Jedi or The Rise of Skywalker for the decline of Star Wars, we can all agree on one thing; Disney and LucasFilm should listen to fans more.

Jon Favreau, the creator of The Mandalorian, told THR he believes that listening to fan feedback is crucial to make a successful franchise like Star Wars. Due to his experience as a stand-up comedian, the actor/director feels that it's a two-way street in that companies release products for viewers and those viewers give feedback so the company can make their product better.

"You put something out in the world, and then it echoes back at you. You have to listen. It's not a one-way street. It's a two-way street. You have to feel the energy of the audience. But when you come from comedy — and when I was doing improv back in Chicago — that's it: You have to read the room, you have to feel the room. You have to be in community with the audience. You have to be part of it."

Granted, you don't want to pander too much just to make fans happy. The Rise of Skywalker proved that you shouldn't go to Reddit and fulfill everyone's fanfiction, especially if it doesn't go with previously established material. You need a good balance of fan feedback and someone's vision to make for a successful Star Wars product, especially with how some fans are.

The Mandalorian can now be viewed on the Disney+ streaming service.
