The CW Announces 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'

It's been teased since the first episode of The Flash and now it's actually happening; CW announced that they would be working on Crisis on Infinite Earths in 2019. This will likely be the next DC-CW crossover and it's a big deal for fans, given the comic story it's named after. There weren't a lot of details revealed about the event, though it was teased at the end of the recent Elseworlds crossover.

At the end of Elseworlds, Psycho Pirate, who plays a big part in the comic, said the infamous tagline from the series: "Worlds will live. Worlds will die. And the universe will never be the same." We also got the official logo and it should get DC fans hyped for next year, considering the ramifications that followed the original series.

What makes the event a big deal for the CW is that both The Flash (Barry Allen) and Supergirl died during Crisis and they wouldn't be brought back for the longest time. Barry had actually stayed dead until Final Crisis, which was 20 or so years after Crisis, while Kara came back in a newly rebooted form in Superman/Batman from Jeph Loeb and Michael Turner.

The original Crisis acted as both a big event for DC and a way for them to make their comic book line cleaner. At the time, there had been a number of alternate Earths and it got a bit confusing for some readers, hence the killing of them. It also allowed writers to rework the origins of characters to make them more interesting, like in John Byrne's Man of Steel series.

Crisis on Infinite Earths will debut on the CW in 2019.
