Square Enix Has Canceled all Future Final Fantasy XV DLC, Except for Episode Ardyn

The special Final Fantasy XV stream has come and gone, leaving fans quite shocked about the outcome. Most of us thought that the game would live forever but the stream ended up feeling like the end, as it was revealed that 75% of the DLC has been canceled. Episode Ardyn, the first DLC Episode announced after the initial season pass, is still scheduled for release but everything else won't be.

Fans of the game are going to be severely disappointed since most of them were excited for Episode Aranea and were mildly curious about Episode Lunafreya. Aranea, in particular, was heavily requested by the fan base since the game already felt like a sausage fest and her small contributions in the story were a breath of fresh air.

Since Ardyn was the first DLC episode announced, it makes sense that Square Enix would still be working on it. Currently scheduled for a March 2019 release, it seems like the studio were able to put in a lot of work on this piece of post-game content, while the others have fallen off the wayside.

According to the stream (via Kotaku), Square Enix lost a lot of money by opening a new studio and this is part of the collateral damage that comes from the fallout. It's a shame really since it would have been interesting to see just how long this game's appeal would have lasted with audiences.

Final Fantasy XV is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Fans can pick up the Royal Edition, which has all of the DLC and bonus content.
