Patrick Stewart Confirms Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Has Been Greenlit

Star Trek: Picard hasn't even aired yet but CBS is so sure of the show's success that they have already greenlit a second season. This might not come as a surprise to some since Star Trek is one of the biggest franchises out there but seeing a show get renewed for a second season before the first one even releases always ceases to amaze.

Then again, Netflix's The Witcher was greenlit for a second season right away and fans seemed to really like the first. Maybe Picard will have similar success? It is a series that many viewers have been asking for after all.

Patrick Stewart, the only actor to play Captain Picard if you don't count his alternate universe-self from one of the Next Generation movies, confirmed that Star Trek: Picard Season 2 would be a reality on his Twitter. Obviously, this is going to be very good news since some fans just love having more Star Trek media in their lives, especially with the lack of any new movies in recent years.

Despite taking place in the same universe as Next Generation, Star Trek: Picard isn't considered a sequel to that series due to the new direction they're taking. While we're sure that the series will have a couple of light moments, Stewart has stated that this will be a darker series that sort of reflects on the world we have today.

Star Trek: Picard is slated for a January 23 release.
