Original Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Plans Only Had One Character Dying

Depending on who you ask, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is either the best or worst film in the Disney era of Star Wars. It's one of the best-looking films in the franchise but also has some of its worst characters. The climax is one of the best in all of Star Wars but the first two acts are absolute drags to go through. Fans have a lot of different things to say about the movie but there is one thing they can all agree on; killing all of the main characters was a bold move.

The writers of Rogue One - Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz - felt it was actually too bold for Disney and came up with an alternate ending where only one character dies. During a live Q and A with CineFix and IGN, the writers revealed that they would have only killed fan-favorite droid K-2SO in a blaze of glory. This would have been sad, only because he's one of the few characters who had a semblance of personality.

Considering how rewrites decided to kill off everyone, including K-2SO, we're pretty surprised that Disney went with that move. The company is known for almost-always giving us some happy endings but films from Marvel and Star Wars proved that they are willing to take big risks. Rogue One was proof of that and that deserves some respect, regardless of how you feel about the movie.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is now available on Disney+ and digital platforms. The movie is also getting a Disney+ series soon, which has a lot of fans excited.
