Marvel Announces 'Major X' A New Series From Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld

It looks like Rob Liefeld is really back with Marvel comics, as the company has announced a new series from the Deadpool creator called Major X. Originally teased via a sketch, we now have our first look at the cover and, well, it's a Rob Liefeld comic book alright. To the creator's credit, the character doesn't have any pouches or belts, though the swords and guns will make people immediately compare this mutant to Deadpool.

Major X will be a bi-monthly series, the first issue of which will be drawn and written by Liefeld himself. The cover shows that he will be encountering several X-Men characters like Storm, Cable, and Wolverine, along with non-mutant character Deadpool. The second issue will also have help from Whilce Portacio and Brent Peeples, which is interesting since Portacio hasn't worked with Marvel for a long time.

Here's Liefeld's pitch of the series to ComicBook.com and, to be honest, it sounds appealing:

"Major X comes from a realm, another plane, called 'The X-istence.' It is populated only by mutants. It's their special place. They're happy. They're living in harmony. The events that cause this portal to open, and for this 'The X-istence' to exist at all are subjects we deal with, and we answer. The absolute formation of The X-istence. Major X hails from there, and his home, the reason he's here encountering the current modern-day Marvel mutant landscape, is because The X-istence has been destroyed, and he is on a journey to restore his home."

Yeah, it sounds 90's as hell but that's just Liefeld's style. Will it be a good comic book? Only time will tell.

Major X comes out this April.
