Legendary Batman Artist Norm Breyfogle Has Passed Away

Some sad news for Batman fans. Norm Breyfogle has passed away at the age of 58, though no cause has been given as of this writing. Breyfogle is a legendary artist who made his mark in the comics industry, thanks to his work on DC and Marvel, as well as co-creating Prime for Malibu's Ultraverse publishing line.

The artist technically debuted in DC Comics at the age of 17, when his fan art was published in Batman Family back in 1984. It didn't take long for his career to skyrocket, soon drawing plenty of comics for DC, Marvel, and the like.

While Breyfogle has illustrated plenty of comic books in his lifetime, the artist really made his mark with Batman. He had a lengthy Detective Comics run with Alan Grant, where he ended up co-creating The Ventriloquist, who ended up being one of the Dark Knight's most popular villains. Soon after, he drew the solo Robin title, which starred Tim Drake, before starting Batman: Shadow of the Bat with Alan Grant once again.

Breyfogle's final comics for DC include a one-shot tale in DC Retroactive: Batman - The 90's and some of the Batman Beyond Unlimited comics. Tragically, the artist suffered a stroke in 2014. Thankfully, he received a lot of support from fans and other publishers. DC also ended up releasing Legends of the Dark Knight: Norm Breyfogle, a graphic novel that collects some of the artist's best Batman comics.

We here at Epicstream send our condolences to his family.
