Half-Life: Alyx Developer Hopes the Next Game Doesn't Take 13 Years

After many years, we finally got a third Half-Life game not called Half-Life 3. Even though it's a VR game, Half-Life: Alyx managed to be an excellent title that lived up to our expectations. Now that this game has come out and is receiving a bunch of praise from critics, fans have to wonder if we'll be getting a new title that will be more accessible to others since not everyone can get VR technology for their gaming sessions.

Robin Walker, a long-time developer for Valve, recently spoke with Polygon about how Alyx was made and Walker is hoping that the next game doesn't take too long. It's been 13 years since Half-Life 2: Episode Two came out and despite earlier promises that a third entry would come out, fans never got it. It's nice to know that Walker is aware of how fans felt about the lack of a proper conclusion from Episode Two and are hoping to rectify that.

"We ended the game in the way you always end the game as a game developer, which is that the end is when you feel like now you really know how to make this game. I'd like to believe that we're as good as we've ever been at building Half-Life at this point, and I hope we continue to make some more."

Fans are probably really happy that Half-Life: Alyx ended up being a great game, not just a good VR game but a great title in general. We would love to see this game get released to other platforms in the near future but we won't hold our breath. At the least, Valve should release The Orange Box on the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Half-Life: Alyx is now available.
