Guardians of the Galaxy Adds Nova, Nighthawk, and Former Quasar Phyla-Vell

Marvel has revealed three more members of the new Guardians of the Galaxy comic and they will make fans very happy. We're not only getting Richard Rider, who many know as the original Nova, but the team will also have Phyla-Vell and Darkhawk, the latter of whom played a role in this year's Infinity Countdown. It's shaping up to be a strong roster and we can't wait to see who else is added.

Darkhawk, Nova, and Phyla-Vell, who many will remember as one of the heroes who went by the Quasar codename, join Cosmic Ghost Rider, Beta Ray Bill, Moondragon, and Gladiator in what may be the largest Guardians roster ever. The fact that none of the movie characters are here, not yet anyway, is an interesting choice, especially with one of them dying soon, though the silhouette in the front is clearly Star-Lord. The guns are a dead giveaway.

There's a lot of fun that can be had with this group. Moondragon and Phyla-Vell were an item during Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's acclaimed Guardians of the Galaxy run. Could we see them reunite here? It will also be fun seeing Nova and Darkhawk interact since Marvel had positioned them to be the next Spider-Man when they first debuted in the 80's and 90's respectively.

With a creative force like Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw working together, it seems like this version of the Guardians will make for one hell of a team. How Cates will be able to handle so many characters in the same book is a bit worrisome but he could always find a way.

Guardians of the Galaxy #1 comes out on January.
