Final Fantasy XIV on PS4 Will Be Free for a Limited Time

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is probably the best example of a game that launched poorly but somehow rose from the ashes as a must-play MMORPG. It's so successful that titles like Fallout 76 and Anthem are hoping to make a similar type of comeback, though only time will tell if that will actually happen. However, if you haven't had the opportunity to play Final Fantasy XIV yet, Square Enix will be giving the base game away for free, albeit for a limited time.

PlayStation 4 owners will be able to pick up Final Fantasy XIV Online Starter Edition on May 22 for the price of absolutely nothing. This comes with the base game, a 30-day free trial, and some neat extras so there's no time like the present to check this title out. The 30-day free trial is also good for those that are cautious about having to pay monthly and this should be their entry point to see if all that money is worth it.

Keep in mind that Final Fantasy XIV Online Starter Edition does not come with expansions like Heavensward, Stormblood, or the acclaimed Shadowbringers. That being said, the base game of A Realm Reborn has plenty of hours to kill and since you will be downloading it for free, we see no harm in trying it out.

You have until May 26 to download Final Fantasy XIV Online Starter Edition before it becomes $19.99 again. You'll also have to pay extra for Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers.
